The Sacramento Weavers’ and Spinners’ Guild is pleased to present Lolli Jacobsen who traveled to the south coast of Oaxaca to view the production of the fantastic purple dye from the purpura pansa shellfish. Only a few people in the world have the skills to extract the dye known in the past as “royal purple”. Lolli observed Habacuc Avendano, a traditional shell dyer, harvest the dye while preserving the life of the snail for future generations.
