The 2016 Conference of Northern California Handweavers has gone down in the books as a highly successful and memorable event. Beginning with the Mayor’s declaration of the week as “Fiber and Textile Week”, the long weekend drew a huge amount of attention: downtown Modesto was yarn-bombed with some 300 pieces of textile clothing and art; a glamorous “wear and share” soiree was held in the McHenry Museum on Saturday night; 24 workshops and classes by nationally respected instructors were attended by over 225 registrants. More than 3 dozen vendors and 7 galleries of finished pieces were complemented by on-going demonstrations of products and fiber-manipulating processes in a Marketplace that drew over 400 walk-in visitors. Smiling faces and clutches of fiber permeated the weekend.
The entire planning committee put forth a huge and professional effort in assembling and hosting the conference. They extend their appreciation to the city of Modesto, to the Doubletree Hotel and Centre Plaza, to the Modesto Convention and Visitor Bureau, to the Area II guilds of CNCH, and especially to the participants of the conference for their support in making this a time to remember. And now, we each move on to other fiber adventures in the field of life.
