A Spinner’s Exploration of Color and Texture
Meagan Condon
Here’s what Meagan says about this workshop: “If you can dream it, you can spin it!” And with her help, you really will!
You’ve mastered the basics, and now it’s time for learning several new ways to handle color in your yarns, with optical blending to avoid the dreaded “mud,” and much more.
You’ll also pick up lots of tips and techniques for creating woolen and worsted yarns, and then you’ll jump into texture!
Finally, you’ll bring it all together in a session of experimentation, enquiry, and what Meagan fondly refers to as “fiber shenanigans.” The techniques from this workshop can be applied to any yarn, from gently textured weaving yarn all the way to art yarn.
SKILL LEVEL: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate – Students should come to class knowing how to spin a single and ply it.
EQUIPMENT: Students should bring a spinning wheel in working order, at least 3 bobbins, a lazy kate, and a niddy noddy for sampling.
PRE-WORKSHOP PREP: none.
MATERIALS FEE:$45 covers the cost of fiber (roughly 12 oz per person across all the sessions, lots of fun indie dyed braids to play with.)
