A Challenge:  Color as Inspiration

A Challenge:  Color as Inspiration

These days I find I have to make a real effort to stay inspired and creative during this time of isolation, so my guild gave me a glimmer of hope on this week’s Zoom meeting when we decided to do a project challenge based on 2021’s Pantone colors of the year.  It’s actually two colors this year, “Ultimate Gray” and “Illuminating.”  https://www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year-2021

One guild member (she shall remain nameless) suggested the “Ultimate Gray” reminded her of duct tape.  “Illuminating” is a yellow that reminds me of a lemon, fresh from the tree.  I thought about those colors over coffee the other morning and thought the ‘duct tape’ description was really quite apt.  2020 was such a shamble of a year, that perhaps we do need some duct tape to hold us together ‘til we mend.  And possibly a fresh-picked lemon or a bright yellow sun can give us hope.

So here is my challenge to you:  take just those two colors and create a project – knitted, woven, handspun, felted, beaded, a basket, sewn, crocheted — any textile media – whatever inspires your boat to float.  You can see the two colors on the pantone website listed above.  If you are venturing out during this time, your local paint shop should carry the paint chips.

Send me your pictures by June 1  editor@cnch.org for inclusion in the July CNCHnet edition.  For those of you on Facebook, I will also post the projects on the Del Oro Guild’s Facebook page.  Voting will be by people’s choice (to my email above) from June 1 -7, and we will do a People’s Choice prize of a $20 gift certificate to Eugene Textile generously donated by Lee Bergman of Del Oro Spinners and Weavers.

Now go forth and create!
