Humboldt Handweavers had a special presentation, Diary of a Textile Archaeologist, by Barbara Klessig, in October.
Teaching at Caly Poly Humboldt during the academic year, she is undertaking her PhD while field excavating in Macedonia in the summer. Her area of expertise is in experiential/experimental archaeology. Her presentation is on the development and evolution of textiles and reconstruction technologies.
Loom and Shuttle, hosts of the Wondering Weaver, discussed the differences between a process weaver and a product weaver and told us about helping a new weaver get acquainted with an 85-year-old homemade loom and a mountain of gifted yarn. They also shared a recipe for Karen’s molasses cookies!
Carmel Crafts Guild had a grand time at the Monterey County Fair and shared pics of their prize-winning entries. Their weaving structure group is off on a grand adventure to Peru.
Bay Area Basket Makers hosted a corn dolly class in October, as well as a knot coiling class in September. And as always, BABM shares a plethora of resources in their newsletter!
