Many guilds are preparing for their local county fairs.  If you would like news of your guild included, send up dates to Cathy at editor@cnch.org

Humboldt Handweavers is looking forward to the Humboldt County Fair August 21 – September 2, where they will be staffing a booth in the Belotti Hall.  They will have live demonstrations and offer handmade items for sale, as well. Demos include a spinning contest and the ever-popular sheep shearing.

Linda Hartshorn hosted a dye day in June.  Dye pots with indigo, cochineal, madder and Osage provided lots of experience.  They also announce their annual Natural Fiber Fair September 8 and 9.  Workshop registration is now open.  Workshops include:

  • Learn to Crochet for Beginners – Fingerless Gloves
  • Foundation of Handspinning – A Balanced Yarn
  • Wild Irish Roses- An Introduction to 3-Dimensional Irish Crochet
  • Bring on the Bling-Introduction to Beaded Crochet
  • Painted Skeins and Warps
  • Make a Needle Felted Penguin
  • Appalachian Style Baskets
  • Needle Tatting Lace – Make Fabulous Lace and Jewelry
  • Visible Mending with Speedweve Looms and Embroidery
  • Natural Colors to Dye For

 

Carmel Crafts Guild announces their next general meeting on August 3 at St Mary’s Episcopal church in Pacific Grove.  Their guest speaker will be Jannie Taylor. She will be presenting “Animal, Vegetable or Mineral.”

Black Sheep Guild participated in Redwood City’s Art on the Square in July, demonstrating weaving to passersby.

 

Diablo Weavers announces October 19th and 20th, 2024, we will have the first workshop of the year with Annie MacHale, a well-known inkle loom weaver who lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Annie has been an inkle loom weaver for over 40 years and has taught classes and self-published books about inkle loom weaving. See:

Foothill Fibers Guild will be at the Nevada County Fair at the fairgrounds in Grass Valley August 7 – 11.  Our Guild sponsors and staffs the “Wool Room” in Ponderosa Hall during the fair. All members are encouraged to enter their weaving, felting, handspun, and items made with handspun yarn. Sign up for a shift or two (or three) as a docent or to demonstrate a fiber art process.

Redwood Guild announces it is their 75th Anniversary and they will be doing demos at the Sonoma County Fair August 1 -11 to celebrate.
