The Oakland Marriott and Convention Center
We are very pleased to be hosting this conference at a new location for CNCH, the Oakland Marriott and Convention Center, in downtown Oakland. The Convention Center is ideally located in the heart of the Bay Area. There’s excellent public transportation and easy freeway access. This venue has served as home to Stitches West and has been recently remodeled. We will be the only big event at the center that weekend so we will not be competing for elevators with other activities.
Conference Hotel – Marriott Hotel
The Marriott Hotel is attached to the Convention Center and it offers an intimate setting for classes, activities, and reuniting with friends. They’ve recently remodeled sleeping rooms and public areas. Free wi-fi Internet access is available in the public areas of the hotel, and Internet access is available in hotel rooms for a fee. There is a parking fee, but the CNCH 2012 team has negotiated for a reduced rate.
The Parking Deal
Parking will be available at the reduced rate of $15 a day. (That’s down from the current daily rate of $24.) The way that’ll work is that conference goers will be given vouchers for the reduced rate. Registrants will receive parking vouchers when they check in on-site, day visitors will receive vouchers when they pay for their daily admission. Payment for parking is made upon departure from the garage, and will be at the $15 rate with presentation of the voucher.

Reservation news updated 11/1/2011: When registering online through the link above, don’t change the group code. It will be preset to “hanhana” and that is correct. If making your hotel reservation by phone, you can still use group code CNCH2012.
Double rooms offer two double beds. Four people could stay in a room although it would be very cozy. And if something comes up, lodging cancellations should be made directly with the hotel and are subject to their cancellations policies.
Why Stay at the Conference Hotel?
The Oakland Marriott offers well-appointed, newly-renovated hotel accommodations featuring allergy-free guest rooms and stunning views of the San Francisco Bay Area, Lake Merritt, Berkeley Marina, and the Golden Gate Bridge. The hotel is located near Oakland’s Chinatown, and there are many restaurants within a few short blocks. In addition, the hotel offers the Level Two Restaurant, Twelve Bar Lounge, and a Peet’s Coffee on the second level lobby, as well as a fitness center and heated outdoor pool.
Staying at the conference hotel makes it easier to attend classes, to spend time with friends, to savor marketplace purchases, and it enables us to minimize the cost of the conference.
Getting There
It is easy to get there from the freeway and from the Oakland Airport. Directions can be found at www.oaklandconventioncenter.com. The 12th St/City Center BART Station is directly across the street from the hotel entrance. Parking at the convention center will be at the discounted rate of $15/day for registrants, those staying at the hotel, and day visitors. We encourage people to carpool or take BART.
