March 10, 2020
Dear members of CNCH,
We have continued to monitor the updates on the COVID-19 virus impacting California, the United States and the World. Over the past weeks it has become increasingly clear to us, your co-chairs, and the CNCH Advisory Council that continuing on with our conference was a risk to our members that we do not wish to take. Besides the State of Emergency in all of California, San Mateo County, where our event was to take place, declared a local State of Emergency on Wednesday, March 4th. On Thursday the 5th, Scott Morrow, the Public Health Officer for the county issued a statement that contained this:
All non-essential gatherings should be canceled, postponed, or done remotely. Unfortunately, at this time, I have no standard definition of “non-essential” or “gathering” to guide your decisions. Use your best judgment.
Our best judgement is to cancel the CNCH 2020 Conference.
We will be working on refunding your costs as soon as we work out the logistics, but please remember to cancel your hotel reservations. We hope to move the galleries and scholarship fundraiser online as well offer the collector’s edition tote bag. All those details will be sent out as soon as we can organize everything – definitely by the original scheduled conference on April 3rd.
We want to extend a huge thank you to all of you for understanding, as well as our fabulous Instructors who have joined us in this adventure and the Vendors who had planned to be in the Market Hall.
You can find our list of vendors, including their websites, on the Marketplace page. Please try to place any online purchases you may need from them and thank them for their support for CNCH.
We will repeat what you’ve read everywhere else (from WHO):
- Wash you hands frequently for at least 20 seconds
- Maintain social distance of at least 3 feet, especially from anyone coughing or sneezing
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
- Cough or sneeze into a tissue & dispose immediately or into your elbow
- Stay home if you feel unwell
- If you have a fever, cough or difficulty breathing, seek medical care – BUT CALL FIRST so they can expect you and be prepared
Sincerely,
Barbie Paulsen, Ann McDonough, Jodi Paley
The 2020 conference is brought to you by the Area 1 South Bay Guilds – Anne’s Web, Black Sheep Handweavers Guild, Carmel Crafts Guild, Fiber Artisans, Glenna Harris Weavers Guild and Santa Cruz Textile Arts Guild.
