Learn to Weave on a Floor Loom
Robin Lynde

Want to learn to weave on a floor loom? Or, to finally pick up warping back-to-front? Or maybe you need a refresher to get back on the weaving track. Robin is here for you!

You will learn how to plan a weaving project, prepare the warp, dress the loom, and weave plain weave and twill variations. Robin will take you through reading drafts and making color and threading decisions. After you finish this class, you will understand enough weaving terminology to follow project instructions in the popular weaving magazines, or to design your own pieces.

Even if you have done a bit of weaving, you will find this class helpful to reinforce your warping skills (using back-to-front warping) and learn efficient weaving techniques. And Robin has a couple of top-notch assistants for this workshop, so you won’t be waiting for answers and guidance. Welcome to the world of floor loom weaving!

SKILL LEVEL: No experience necessary, and any weavers with some experience looking for a refresher, or to learn back-to-front warping are welcome, too!

EQUIPMENT: Loom, lease sticks that fit the loom, threading and sleying hooks, 2 shuttles with bobbins, warping board, raddle, scissors, tape measure, tapestry needle, paper for winding warp (can be paper bags cut open, or sturdy paper used for packing, at least 12 inches wide and enough to wind two and a half yards. (Shorter pieces are ok), pencil, seating (bench or stool; if not, a cushion or folded blanket for sitting at the correct height at the loom).

The instructor will have a limited number of looms and associated equipment available. Please indicate in the registration if you will need one.

PRE-WORKSHOP PREP: none

MATERIALS FEE: $40
