9 hour workshop: Saturday 9-12, Saturday 1-4, Sunday 9-12
Participants will learn that wire has many similarities to yarn and is easier to weave than they thought.
Techniques include how to handle metals on the loom. Sources of materials and a history of woven metals will be discussed. Everyone will go home with a sampler and a positive attitude towards using wire on the loom. All participants will be provided with a pre-measured warp for a 3” x 72” sampler with lease sticks, a variety of wire and metals for each participant, corrugated cardboard to separate the warp as it rolls on, and extra tools.
LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED (able to warp a loom and read drafts)

Students to Bring: Sturdy table loom or portable floor loom with at least 4 harnesses, 8 works best (NOTE: small, light-weight looms are not heavy enough to be successful with wire); a reed, 12, 6, 4, 3 or 10; flat shuttles; tape measure; wire cutters; heavy tapestry needle; heavy-duty scissors; filler for weaving header; notebook with pen and pencil
Optional: Lamp with extension cord, “nylon jaw” flat nose pliers
